IZZO Swami 4000 Golf GPS Review
IZZO is known for their cart bags, training aids, and clubs but also makes several golf GPS units, including their newest IZZO Swami 4000 Golf GPS.
Reviews show that not everyone feels the same about how well this GPS performs, however most are very pleased with the simplicity and ease of use, along with the accuracy of the yardage. It is a popular choice among entry level golfers looking for an affordable easy to operate unit.
Whether or not it is the ideal choice for you depends on whether you prefer an easy to use entry model that provides basic yardages, or upscale and more advanced units with all the bells and whistles such as distance to hazards, flyovers or birds eye views.
If you are looking for an affordable easy to operate unit, then you might consider this model.

IZZO Swami 4000 Golf GPS Functions
When I’m out at my favorite golf course I am usually the one tracking scores for our group. I find it hard enough to stay focused on my game, where my ball went, and what I did wrong all while tracking everyone’s score. The last thing I need is to worry about a complicated or difficult to use GPS that further distracts me from what is going on.
The IZZO 4000 Golf GPS tries to be a simple to operate unit to make it easy to use on the course. By providing quick and accurate distance to front, center & back of the green you can focus on enjoying your game, not trying to operate a complicated GPS.
I like that this unit offers distance to front, center & back of the green and is a compact unit that easily fits into a pocket. Additonally it features auto hole advance and shot distance measurement. The waterproof design is definitely welcome.

IZZO Swami 4000 Golf GPS Display Details
The display provides a color display 1.8 inches in size that’s easy to read, even in bright sunlight. This GPS does not provide map views where color is needed, however the color screen is still a nice touch. You may also like that it supports 12 different languages. I don’t need any languages other than English but perhaps you do.
This is a basic distance style GPS device so does not offer a touch screen like more advanced models. The buttons are a nice, big size, and sensitive to operate. Just be careful as these sensitive buttons can be accidentally pressed in pocket, but you can easily get back to the correct screen.
IZZO Swami 4000 Golf GPS Mapping Features
(Back to Top)
When you first turn on the IZZO 4000 GPS, it is pre-loaded with 30,000+ worldwide courses, with more being added. Yes worldwide courses are included, not just courses in the United States or Canada. If you find your course is not included you can update the database without needing computer downloads and no annual subscription is required.
To get an idea of what courses are included in the mapping, you can go to their web site like I did and check if your favorite course is listed. Mine was. Should you be unfortunate enough not to find your course, you can request that IZZO add it on their website if an update does not include it.

Battery Type and Charging
I really dislike devices that use standard batteries that require constant replacing when the batteies go dead. It is very nice to see that the IZZO 4000 Golf GPS uses rechargeable lithium ion batteries which makes it far more convenient to keep the GPS charged and ready to go.
Each battery charge lasts up to 8 hours or about two rounds of play.
Dimensions
The unit itself is a handheld unit style, measuring 3.8 x 2.1 x 0.9 inches. The weight comes in at 3.17 ounces, so we can see this is a compact unit easily fits into our pocket. This is perfect for golfers like me who prefer to walk the course.
However if you prefer using a riding golf cart, you might want a larger device.
Additional Features
There aren’t many advanced features, and because this GPS is geared towards basic measurement and ease of use, if you are considering this model, you likely won’t need more. It does offer a course map editing feature that allows you to re-program front/center/back distances in case you find they are off a bit, or want to really dial it in.
Another nice feature that I like is the ability to display in yards or meters. Some users report the distances being off by 10%, or consistently coming up short on their drives. Choosing meters instead of yards could easily explain this difference in distance so check this setting if you are having any distance issues.
Lastly as it should, it includes scorecard and shot distance features, which we expect in all GPS models.
Accessories
As expected, this GPS includes a wall charger and a USB cable. Also included are a belt clip and protective case. If you will need mounting brackets for your golf bag, pull or riding cart then you can purchase them seperately.

Most reviews are average to above average, but there are a minority of users who gave below average ratings. Still the IZZO 4000 GPS scored respectably averaging 4 stars. For customer support, IZZO appear to provide good service for faulty units and stand behind their products.

Pros & Cons
Pros:
There are a number of user reviews already available and overall users are satisfied with their purchase. Users like the preloaded courses and that there is no subscription. There is also a general agreement that this GPS is fast and provides fairly accurate readings.
The auto advance to the next hole is nice, although some users have to manually advance the device.
This GPS is rather small, which is good if you’re wearing it on your belt or prefer to keep it in your pocket, while the bright yellow sides help you locate it quickly.
The high contrast readout, affordable price and simple, ease of use are its main strengths. Just charge it up and play, without worrying about needing a computer or subscription.
Cons:
This GPS has a lot of pluses, but it’s not without its faults. The sensitive buttons can be accidentally pressed while in your pocket.
It also require a long charge time initially but is quicker on subsequent charges.
This entry level model lacks all the extras that the more expensive models have such as distance to hazards, fly overs or birds eye view.
If only distance to the green is needed then perhaps a GPS watch could be considered.
Check current pricing discounts:
This is an affordable unit for novices and golfers with mid to high handicaps looking for an entry level unit, selling everywhere at just above $100.
