The Garmin S2 watch improves on the S1 because it adds lay up and dogleg distances plus a digital scorecard. What really stands out is that the S2 watch does not go to sleep so there is never any waiting for it to wake up. It just always shows the distances, all the time. And it switches holes automatically as you advance the the course so it works seamlessly.
The S2 however does not give distance to hazards like the S3 does. But S3 will cost more and has a smaller print that may be harder to read without your reading glasses. And you can save some money by sticking with the Garmin S2.
